Google and Microsoft are at the top of the list of tech behemoths. Both companies have been competing in the tech industry for years, and they are now bringing their rivalry to the chatbot market. It’s anyone’s game, so let’s look at what each company has to offer.

Meet the Chatbots: Bard and ChatGPT

Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s ChatGPT have a lot in common. They’re both chatbots that use machine learning to generate responses to user queries. But that’s where the similarities end.

Bard — The Quirky Chatbot

Bard is Google’s answer to ChatGPT, and it’s a chatbot that’s designed to be an “outlet for curiosity and launchpad for creativity” — Sundar Pichai, Google CEO. Bard draws responses from the internet and uses Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) to provide more detailed answers than the typical Google search. Bard’s main goal is to retrieve information in a simple answer versus a search engine results page. Think of it as your very own personal assistant for booking vacations, finding existing reservations, and helping with meal planning.

ChatGPT — The Academic Chatbot

ChatGPT, on the other hand, is OpenAI’s take on an AI chatbot. ChatGPT uses the GPT-3 language model to formulate responses to user queries. It’s been used for everything from written code, blog posts, to law briefs, translations, product descriptions and even jokes, memes and poems. But ChatGPT is also raising concerns in academia, with teachers and professors worried about students using the chatbot to cheat on essays and exams.

Who Will Win the Chatbot Race?

It’s impossible to predict who will win the Google-Microsoft chatbot race. Both companies have strengths and weaknesses, and the outcome will be determined by a number of factors, including the emergence of new technologies, changes in consumer preferences, and the competitive landscape.

The Case for Google

Google has a strong advantage when it comes to search and its innovation in areas such as AI and machine learning. Bard’s ability to access real-time data and provide detailed answers and assist in daily tasks could give it an edge over ChatGPT. Plus, Google’s acquisition of a variety of smaller companies will allow them to continue expanding their services.

The Case for Microsoft

On the other hand, Microsoft’s growth rate and success in cloud computing make it a strong contender in the chatbot race. ChatGPT’s early release, academic prowess and Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI will likely attract users in academia and business. Plus, their technology for large companies to create and customize their chatbots could attract more users.

The End is Just the Beginning

As the chatbot race continues, we can only speculate who will emerge as the victor. Google and Microsoft have a lot to offer with their respective chatbots, and it will come down to time and tech. But one thing is for sure, chatbots are just the beginning of how AI is going to change our lives.
